It's no secret that I enjoy a good market, especially ones centred around food. The thought of all that yummy deliciousness in one convenient place! Yay!
Borough Market was definitely in my top things to do when I first arrived in London, in fact I think I enjoyed it so much I managed to go twice in my first week of being here! It's one of the most famous food markets in the country (if not the world!) and I was astounded by the variety and quality of fresh produce and artisan food that was available. Vegetables and Cheeses that I had never heard of, massive pans of paella calling your name (free sample? don't mind if I do!), wonderful coffee (which is kinda hard to find here in London in my humble opinion) and cakes and sweets galore.
Top picks from me:
- Raclette at Kappacasein - gruyere cheese, grilled and melted on-demand served with sauteed potatoes and gherkins
- Baked goodness at Comptoir Gourmand - cannot resist their portuguese custard tarts. They also do lamingtons (for those homesick Aussie's needing a fix) and have the most adorable meringues.
- Turnips - which stock the most amazing array of fruit and veg, some of which I've never seen before. And so creatively presented as well! They also have a great juice bar and do some really interesting combinations. Kale, Watermelon, Apple and Pear take your fancy?
So spill people, where are your favourite foodie destinations?
